About Irvine Bears

Who or what is Irvine Bears?

Well, I suppose I am Irvine Bears. My name is Caren Field. I became interested in sewing as a child. I started with making clothes but, as time moved on (and the number of nieces and nephews increased) my interest moved to making soft toys. It also helped that I am also extremely fond of making them and, wherever possible, keeping them. I also now have a daughter, Jennifer, who appears to have inherited my passion for all things cuddly.

Irvine Bears is the result of this growing hobby. Why Irvine Bears? Well, Irvine is my maiden name and as I had started prior to getting married, I decided to keep the name.

I continue to make various soft toys, including Teddy Bears, which conform to safety standards making them suitable for children. However, my efforts are increasingly focused on making Mohair Teddy Bears for Adult Collectors.

Irvine Bears is still a hobby but I am hoping that my efforts will enable me to turn it into something I can do more and more, and to become a recognised bear maker.

As mentioned above, I currently display and sell my creations at local Craft and Teddy/Doll Fairs in the Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire areas, and sometimes further afield.

Also, in 2004, I am proud to have been accepted by the Made In Yorkshire organisation, which is dedicated to presenting quality crafts created in Yorkshire.
